Outdoor Structures Calculators

Lumber, shingles, and hardware counts for fences and roofs.

Structures are counted, not poured: posts, pickets, rails, and bundles. These calculators turn a few simple site measurements, like the length of a fence run or a house footprint and roof pitch, into complete material counts, including the concrete for post holes and the underlayment beneath shingles.

The constants come from how the materials are actually sold and built: fence rails come in 8 foot lengths, which is why posts go 8 feet on center; architectural shingles pack three bundles per roofing square; a 6/12 roof has 11.8% more surface than its footprint. Each page explains its assumptions so you can adjust them to your build.
